Opening my eyes, I look beside me and Nova is sleeping peacefully on his back. I reach my hand out as I caress his face, feeling the stubble of his blond beard under my fingertips as I feel the strains of something I don’t really want to identify tug at my heart. This is exactly why I have the no sleep over rule. Waking up together is just so damn intimate and it starts all these feelings that aren’t a part of my rules either.

Although with Nova, I’ve been breaking rules since I met him.

As my fingers continue to caress his face, Nova stirs in his sleep and slowly he opens his eyes, a wide smile spreading across his lips.

“Mornin’ darlin’, he whispers as he reaches over and pulls me toward him.

“Morning,” I whisper back, snuggling into his side.

“How did you sleep?”

“Too well,” I say. “I forgot where I was.”

He begins to move his fingers up and down my naked back. “What did you think of your first club party?”

“You made it very…enjoyable,” I say, laughing as he begins to chuckle then run his fingers through my long hair.

“That part was pretty great, huh?”

“Yeah. It really was,” I laugh before I move so that I’m leaning on his chest and looking down at him. “Although, I need to ask you – are you…safe?” I ask nervously. “It’s just that we’ve done it without protection a couple of times now, and I just want to make sure.”

He reaches up and tucks my hair behind my ear before trailing his fingertips lightly along my jawline, tracing the curve of my bottom lip. “I’m safe, I promise,” he replies in a whisper and I let out a relieved exhale.

“So am I,” I respond. “And I’m on the pill too, so no little feet to worry about.”

He smiles. “It wouldn’t worry me, darlin’,” she says, leaning up to kiss me in the curve of my neck, his arms wrap around my waist and he rolls us so I’m on my back and he’s gently kissing and touching every inch of my body, it feels amazing, but my mind can’t help but continue to react to him saying it wouldn’t bother him. What the hell? Things are beginning to get way too serious.

“Remember what we talked about before – let me take the lead. This is my world, so that means you follow my rules. As you know, I’ve dealt with quite a few cases like this in the past, so lets just stick to the plan. We need to get your mother on our side so she can agree to the terms and not make this any harder for us,” I say, as Nova and I off his Harley outside the law offices we’re meeting at to discuss the custody arrangement for his younger brother and sister. The grey building is triple the size in height of our building back in North City, but it’s smaller than the place I interned at after college.

“Don’t sweat it, darlin’, I’ll behave.
